We can all say goodbye to winter and hello to spring. We can also say goodbye to our old ADS and VRS-S product configurations and welcome in our new ADS-C232-3AD vertical reference sensor. Customer feedback has included comments about the size and cost of our sensors. Some key benefits of the new sensor include a much smaller footprint, lower cost (as much as 50% in some cases), and analog/digital outputs all combined in a durable case.

ADS with dimsADS-C232-3AD

Introducing the ADS-C232-3AD, Watson Industries newest sensor system! It is much smaller, less expensive and only weighs 2.1 ounces. It is also a fully functional vertical reference system that can serve as a replacement for a Watson VRS in most applications.

The Watson Industries Dual Axis Vertical Reference System is a solid-state gyro package that measures angular displacement and rate, especially where dynamic motion may interfere. Under these conditions, the effects of lateral accelerations severely limit the performance of an ordinary accelerometer or pendulous device.

The Watson Dual Axis Vertical Reference achieves exceptional performance by integrating the output of a vibrating structure gyro to get an estimate of the attitude, which is then compared to accelerometers to find the error. The error is filtered over a long time constant and subtracted from the rate gyro output to correct biases in a closed loop error correction system. This process lets the gyro measure short-term attitude accuracy above the correction loop frequency while the accelerometer serves as the long-term reference.

The ADS can be a functional replacement for mechanical gyros, which are often more expensive, larger, heavier and less reliable than this solid-state sensor. It is especially suited for applications where there is limited bank and elevation such as ships, underwater vehicles, some land vehicles, and certain camera applications.

Yacht and Ferry Stabilization

Ocean-going yachts and ferries are susceptible to rolling and pitching with waves. To minimize the effects of wave motions on the passengers and cargo, a sensor is needed that can provide the necessary information to an active stabilization system.Yachts are stabilized primarily to provide additional comfort to the passengers. The main purpose of stabilizing ferries is safety related. The roll angle of the vessel is controlled so that any cargo stored inside will not shift.

These applications require a high quality, reliable vertical reference gyro that can survive for extended periods in a marine environment.

Cable Support Stabilized Camera

At sporting events, getting as close to the action as possible without interfering with the athletes is the goal. Video cameras suspended by cables allow the audience to feel like they are on the field without disturbing the competitors. This application has strong commercial value since a more exciting telecast will draw a larger viewing audience.

For optimal quality, a vertical reference system is required that is stable and capable of holding the camera level even during accelerations and cable oscillations generated by the wind or other causes.
